Modern Flavors of Arabia by Suzanne Husseini New Cookbook

This is definitely not a cookbook you want to read while hungry because making a decision on what to make would be impossible. The cheese bread rolls, flecked with herbs and soft feta? Falafel stuffed into pita, classic and sure to satisfy? Or wait, what about the lamb meatballs in that tahini sauce? See what I mean? Even when hunger isn't a factor, choosing which recipe to make first from Modern Flavors of Arabia is nigh on impossible!

Quick Facts

Who wrote it: Suzanne Husseini

Who published it: Random House

Number of recipes: Around 80

Recipes for right now: Cheese and Za'atar Flatbread, Beet and Purslane Salad with Citrus Dressing, Meatballs with Sweet and Sour Cherry Sauce, Lemony Lentil Soup with Swiss Chard, Cauliflower Fritters with Yogurt and Mint Dip, Shawarma, Walnut and Herb-Stuffed Salmon, Pistachio Ice Cream, Chocolate-Filled Cardamom Cookies

Other highlights: The more time I spend with this cookbook, the more I am pulled into this sumac-spiced, pomegranate-flecked, nut-stuffed world. Suzanne Husseini, the host of a popular Arabic cooking show in the Middle East, divides her recipes into breakfast, messe, lunch, dinner, and dessert, making it easy to imagine cooking from this book 24/7.

The recipes are all completely approachable, using techniques that even new cooks will be able to handle and ingredients that are easy to find at any well-stocked grocery store. Beautiful full-page photographs of every dish also serve not only to tempt us, but also to help us visualize dishes and preparations that may be unfamiliar.

Who would enjoy this book? Anyone curious about Arabic cuisine
