The thought of using food to recreate priceless works of art doesn't sound particularly beautiful (or appetizing). But wait until you see the efforts of chef/stylist Caitlin Levin and photographer Henry Hargreaves who recreated some of Mark Rothko's paintings with rice.
Inspired by Rothko's colorful paintings, Levin hand dyed rice to duplicate the simplistic patterns and worked to feather the edges to match the brush strokes of the late painter. But what became of all the colorful rice after the pieces were photographed? Levin mixed all of the colored rice together to make a tasty, albeit sort of green-hued, coconut rice.
