Have you heard of Good Eggs? This San Francisco-based startup launched last summer, and we're excited about the concept. Basically, Good Eggs is like Etsy for local foodies. It's an online hub where people can find and buy food directly from nearby farmers and food producers, and then arrange to pick it up or have it delivered.
Co-founder Alon Salant told Wired in a piece published last July that the inspiration for Good Eggs came from wanting to find a better way to connect local food producers with customers: "A lot of entrepreneurs are inventing other ways to get food to people outside of traditional grocery distribution channels... That's great, but it's completely disorganized without any infrastructure or support. There's a clear need here to make people's lives easier."

Good Eggs is similar to Etsy in that it provides small food vendors a way to sell their products online without needing to have their own website. No food is shipped; instead everything is hand-delivered by the vendor or made available for pickup.
Currently Good Eggs is still only in five Bay Area neighborhoods: The Mission, SOMA, Hayes-Haight-NOPA, Oakland, and Berkeley. Vendors are divided by neighborhood, with businesses appearing in a grid format complete with name, photo, and description. To order, pick what you want from a drop-down menu and then proceed through the checkout process. It's as simple as that!
