The 'Don't Waste Produce' Checklist: A Guide To Help You Stop Wasting Food Reader Submission

We never plan to waste food, but sometimes it just happens - and it's frustrating and a waste of money! So Kitchn reader Jacqueline Smith developed a weekly checklist system to make it easy for her to remember which food in her fridge was most perishable, so she could eat that first...

...and now she's sharing her system with the world! Jacqueline's Don't Waste Produce Checklist (which you can purchase for $1.99 on her website) is a handy way to keep track of your produce and plan it into your meals. Here's how it works: every time you unpack your groceries, grab a new checklist. The checklist will guide you through how to categorize and use up your old produce (from last week) and how to plan for and store your new produce. She also includes a guide to how to store over 80+ fruits and vegetables, including which ones are best to use within 1-2 days, 3-4 days, etc.

Overall, we think it's a really terrific system. It's clear that with just a little bit of planning ahead of time, you can cut down on a lot of produce waste. More food, more money in your pocket. It's a win-win.
