The November issue of Food & Wine includes a brief interview with director David Lynch that is weird and wonderful, especially in an issue so focused on Thanksgiving and holiday cheer. Who can talk turkey when the man behind Eraserhead and Twin Peaks is talking about his very specific food preferences and describing his ideal kitchen? (Spoiler alert: it's a little disturbing.)
Lynch has his own line of coffee and at one time drank 20 cups of coffee a day. Though he used to eat at Bob's Big Boy every day for lunch and waxes rhapsodic for a moment about the beauty of diners he now lunches on "Dr. Bieler's broth," a pureed soup of parsley, zucchini, green beans and celery. Followed by exactly seven almonds.
He used to forbid cooking in his home, but his position has changed, though he still has a specific vision of how a home kitchen should be designed:
"I really think the kitchen should be separate, and it should be mostly cement and stainless steel, with high-powered hoses and drains in the floor. It should have a huge exhaust fan to evacuate greasy smoke. I picture it coating the walls and all the things in the house, and to me, that's just not right."
